When my son was born in 2017, he was a happy, curious baby who met or exceeded all his developmental milestones. He made eye contact, mimicked his older sister, and babbled back when we spoke to him. He was engaged with the world around him, full of life and promise.But then, everything began to change.

Slowly, he stopped imitating us. He stopped responding to his name. His eye contact faded, and he no longer tried to communicate through gestures or sounds. He became more particular about food—restricting what he would eat and refusing to let anyone else feed him. His sensory sensitivities intensified, covering his ears at noises that never bothered him before. He began to withdraw, and as a mother, I could feel him slipping away.

Then, his weight dropped.

It was terrifying. Watching your child lose skills they once had, struggle to eat, and fall behind is a kind of fear that only a parent can truly understand. The uncertainty, fearing for the future, the grief, the overwhelming need to find answers—it overwhelmed me.

At age two, he was diagnosed with autism. He had difficulty following directions, would become frustrated easily, and his main form of communication was crying and tantrums. He was hyperactive, unable to focus on tasks or engage in educational activities. Every day felt like we were grasping at solutions, hoping something would help.

I threw myself into research, determined to find ways to support him. I enrolled him in ABA therapy and feeding therapy, adjusted his diet as best I could, and tried supplements. I was willing to do anything that could help him gain back what he had lost and gain independence.

That’s when my mother introduced me to Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy (MeRT).

At first, I was skeptical. I read everything I could about it—its safety, its risks, and the science behind it. I knew there were no guarantees, but I also knew that if there was even a chance it could help my son, I had to try it.

A Glimmer of Hope

Within the first week of treatment, something incredible happened—he slept through the night. For the first time in what felt like forever, he was calm. He was more present. He even watched most of a movie, something he had never done before.

By the end of six weeks, his improvements became undeniable. He was more aware of his surroundings, understood where we lived in relation to places we frequented, and instead of immediately melting down in frustration, he started using more words.

Then, in the midst of a second round of MeRT a year later, something even bigger happened.

He asked me a full-sentence question.

“Mommy, are you ok?” I was initially skeptical; I wasn’t sure if he knew what he was saying. So, I responded, “yes, I’m ok are you ok?” And he responded “yes”. I was flooded with emotions and started to cry, it was my first conversation with my son! I was elated to hear him talk and actually know and understand what he was saying.

I had spent so long wishing I could have a conversation with my son. And now, here he was—talking to me. His speech therapist, ABA team, and our family members were shocked at his rapid progress. His therapy became more effective, amplifying the skills he was learning for months afterward.

By his third round of MeRT, he was verbal. Not just saying words—having full conversations. He asks questions, expresses emotions, and advocates for himself. He qualified for special support in a general education classroom and started making friends.

For the first time since his regression, I had hope again.
